Hello
I just found this forum and here's my story.
My father was diagnosed with GBM stage III in Oct. 2004
He got radiation, temodal and survived 16 months.
His quality of life was really bad after the radiation and the last five months were pure horror.
A few days ago my mom had a seizure episode and after CT and MRI scans got the diagnosis of GBM!!!
Almost the same spot in the brain, a little smaller in size but nonetheless.
What are the odds?
Two people, not genetically related (married though) diagnosed with the same type of tumor, two years apart.
It's beyond belief. I don't want to bore you with grief issues and questions about cures, but has anybody ever heard of a case like this?
All you MD's out there, maybe this is a case for a new study or an essay in a medical journal.
All that's left is hope and pray!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mam been. diagnosed with gbm . I haven't heard of two people in the same family having it. My husband has gbm and 4yrs before he had male breast cancer which was not related just bad luck they said he had more chance of winning the loto than getting the breast cancer then getting a second cancer. My husband has a good quality of life he was diagnosed feb 05 and it was a grade 4 so hopefully your mam will do well on treatment.

My story is about the same: My mother died of a GBM eight years ago; I was diagnosed with another form of glioma in ’92 (Astrocytoma) and again in ’05 (ODG). When I found out that my mother had a GBM I did some checking about a genetics connection. I found out that at that time a doctor at MD Anderson in Houston, TX was doing some studies. I called her, but she was looking for families with multiple (more than two) cases spanning multiple generations in the same family. So, apparently it does happen. Whether or not it is a “bad” gene, I do not know… but it is a bad cancer.

Also, this last time a had a recurrence, they did a genetics study to determine the best treatment for me. So, apparently, there can be some genetic mutation involvement in some forms of gliomas.
