After all of these years and billions of dollars donated to research...WHERE IS THE CURE?? Young teens and 20 somethings are now losing their breasts to breast cancer. They have not yet had time to live their own lives or to nurse their own babies. In Marin County, California, 1 in 6 women get diagnosed with breast cancer. One day it will be 1 in 5 and then 1 in 3. When does it end?

HELLO, I THINK FOR MOST IT DOES TAKE A LONG TIME SETTLE DOWN AND BE ABLE TO SAY I AM OK FOR NOW. I THINK MAYBE YOURS BEING AROUND THE HOLIDAYS MAY EVEN MAKE IT ALL SEEMS WORSE SOMEHOW. I CAN REMEBER THAT I FINISHED MY RADIATION TREATMENTS DEC. 2002 SO THAT CHRISTMAS WAS RATHER BAD FOR ME AS FAR AS HOW I WAS FEELING. I WAS SO TIRED AND STILL HURT FROM THE SURGERY. THE NEXT CHRISTMAS 2003 WAS A BIG REMINDER OF WHAT HAD BEEN GOING ON IN 2002, AND I FELT THAT I HAD TO WORK SO HARD TO HAVE EVERYTHING JUST SO SINCE I FELT I HAD BEEN THE REASON EVERYONE WAS DOWN THE CHRISTMAS BEFORE. THIS YEAR SO FAR IT HAS NOT BEEN BAD AT ALL. I DID MAKE UP MY MIND THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO LET ANYTHING STRESS ME THIS YEAR FOR THE HOLIDAYS. THE IMPORTANT THING THIS YEAR FOR THE HOLIDAYS IS MORE ABOUT BEING THANKFUL THAT I AM HERE WITH MY FAMILY AND TRYING TO JUST THINK OF THE REAL MEANING OF CHRISTMAS AND NOT ALL THE GIFT BUYING AND PARTIES. I HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP TO YOU. Laughing

Hi Cindy,
I looked at that board and I was curious, is it moderated by those two doctors? Or does a breast cancer survivor moderate it?
From the way it is written it sounds like it was written by someone who has really been through this Breast Cancer marathon. I appreciated a lot of what she? He? wrote. That is why I am curious! Our feelings are so similar I wanted to know! And I couldn't find any name other than the two doctors.
Thank you.

Hi Martha Anne. I am the writer and owner of the site. Yes, I have definitely been through the breast cancer marathon. It is my turn to give back and to help others through this most unwanted journey. You can find me on the forum as "cec". The two doctors have only donated their time in answering questions. Blessings.

Dear Cindy,

I LOVE the article, "True Faces of Breast Cancer." Those issues have always/still do irk me to the point of anger. All that was ever shown during October was good-looking women with smiling faces. HUH???? This aint the flu! I would love to see breast cancer more realistically portrayed in the media. I have always believed it is a disservice to women to "powder puff" it. As a result, women don't realize just how serious it is. They think if the lump is found very early then all that needs to be done is have the lump taken out and take some medicine. POOF! You're cured. Yes, some are "cured" (with cure being measured by living the rest of your life and the BC never recurring). But who knows which ones of us will be "cured?" I would prefer women live with a bit of fear, enough to have that mammo, monthly BSE and yearly CBE.

Thanks, Cindy. Looks like a great site.

Hi Mace. You are so correct when you say that it is important to get back to the true meaning of Christmas. It has been lost for a very long time. I think that those of us who have been diagnosed with bc sometimes see things differently that we did before. I think we have a better appreciation of life and of other things that surround us.

Also, I wanted to mention that I have heard of instances where certain times of the year approach and women get nauseous, as it reminds them of a time of year when they were going through chemo. For me, I would get nauseous when I would pass by the hospital. I feel okay now, though.

Well take care and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Blessings

Cindy
