My mom in law has stage 4 NSCLC with mets. to the brain, spread to other lung, lymph nodes and abdomen. Not sure if it's techincally in the organs in her abdomen at this time. They gave her 6 months 4 months ago.

She's hospitalized right now, received 2 blood transfusions and is on oxygen. She can't even get up to use the bathroom. We don't know if she's staying like this now or if it will improve, we're waiting to get test results back and see exactly where she's at.

My question is regarding hospice. We're pretty certain they are stopping the chemo now. That would be when we call hospice, and maybe get a nurse b/c I can't do everything for her.

She has no insurance, we tried medicaid but since she's got a nest egg, although not really alot, it's too much to qualify. By the time she qualifies, it may be too late. She gets all her hospital bills paid for by the hospital itself, it's a write-off for them, but she pays all other bills, doctor's, etc.

Does anyone know how much hospice costs? And how often do they come to your house? Every day or once a week? We're trying to plan ahead b/c the time seems to be nearing. If anyone could shed some light...it'd be great

Hello all,

I have found out the cost of hospice b/c my mom in law now is through with treatments and is in hospice.

Actually she's with us in our home, but the nurse comes 3 times a week, and the home health aide comes 4 days a week four hours a day and 1 day on the weekend for 3 hours. Since my mom in law has no health insurance, it is totally free.

Just though i'd share that with everyone else in case you have a similar situation. Also they are paying for her meds too, so that's a huge help.
