Hi ,
My husband was diagnosed with CLL in 2002 and this was treated with chemo. and he went into remission. In February this year he was diagnosed with Richters Transformation of CLL. He has undergone a strong chemo regime of CHOP, Mabthera and Neulasta but has progressively gone down and his last chemo session was cancelled and he had CT Scans and Bone Marrow tests again and the disease has not been affected . He has now finished with any more treatment and has been told that there is nothing more to be done. Does anyone know any more about richters and what we can expect as far as symptoms etc in this last stage.Question
Thank you

hi gsdsd. i'm so sorry to hear about your husband. mine, too was diagnosed in 2002 with cll. he was asymptomatic until last august when he started to complain of feeling full all of the time. hugely swollen lymph nodes, coughing and rapid weight loss followed and by december he was dx with richters. it took much too long for this to happen,,we left memorial and went to dana farber where they started him on chop within three days. chemo was finished in may,,pet scan in april was looking pretty good. lately he's been feeling tired, the cough is back and today he told me about the recurring dull pain in his gut, accompanied by nausea. i don't know if i'm imagining it,but i think i see lymph nodes on his neck again. i'll be on the phone first thing monday,,cuz i've got a bad feeling.
i too have been searching the web for more info on richters. so far all i've found is the statistic of an 18 month life expectancy from the date of dx. his docs at dana farber have patients with richters who have lived for up to to five years,,that's what we've been praying for.
i'll keep you in mind if i find out anything else,i wish you would do the same for me. stay sane and loving,,it's all i can think of to do for him right now.

Hi Suz1023,
Thank you for replying. I am sorry to hear that your husband has relapsed again. Did he have problems with the chemo? My husb. only finished 4 sessions of 6 as he had hospt. admissions after each chemo, blood transfusions every time because of low WCC & Hb. He has lost weight and a lot of your husb. symptoms are similar to my husb. He is at present only having 2 blood trans. each week to give him a boost. I will certainly remember you and let you know how things are progressing and I wish you all the best and please let me know if the drs. think that your husbands richters has returned. I notice that you are in USA I am in Australia . Thank you once again
