My oncologist has suggested that I switch to Femara. I'm 45 and have been on Tamoxifen for 1 year with no problems. I felt good about the idea of 5 years of Tamox and then Femara - but now I'm wondering if I should switch. I want to do whatever will keep the cancer away! My onc's explanation is that Femara has slightly better out comes and fewer side effects. I was diagnosed in Feb '03 with stage 2 multi focal breast cancer. I had 4 A/C chemos first and then a mastectomy. My pathology from the mast was no nodes and clean wide (5 cm) margins. I then went on to 2 more A/Cs and radiation.

Thanks for your input,

Barb

Individual providers have different experiences. Femara may be better tolerated, but it seems that you have not had problems with it. The ATAC trial shows that an aromatase inhibitor is indeed superior to tamoxifen.

You can read the abstract here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=14584060

Hi Leo,
What's scary about that like is I understood it...lol It's talking about early stage BC and when I was 1st reading up on it, it was talking more about late stage BC like I was dx. Is Arimidex still superior in late stages BC still? What is the lastest on that?
Thanks
Nancy
