My mom was diagnosed with this disease 6 weeks ago. She lost her vision in her left eye and thought she needed new eye glasses. She went to her eye doctor and he recommended an MRI. The report showed a tumor on her right occipital lobe and that was why she couldn't see all of a sudden.
She had surgery and it was removed successfully. We had our appointment to the radiologist yesterday and she wants to do another MRI to see if the tumor has come back and then we will make a decision as to treatment. She is 77 years old and is really healthy for her age except for this disease. I would like to hear from anyone who knows of someone in this age range to find out if the prognosis is different. Also, what are the final stages and symptoms that she would have so that I can prepare myself for that. All information would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou..
Mary

NIH is always a good starting site for more information:

Hello,

my dad is in his early 70's and has GBM. He was diagnosed 5 months ago, and went through the 6 weeks of radiation and Chemo. He started his cycled chemo, 5 days on,etc.

He did have some new growth after the 6 weeks of radiation is will be doing the Cyberknife treatment, 5 days of intense radiation.

My dad was in very good shape, so that is a huge help, as is your mom.
I can't say this is worse for older versus younger, as many people die from this at any age. I think alot depends on how well she can take the treatment.

My dad is doing ok for now, but of course concerned about this new growth and if the cyberknife will help.

I would be interested in finding out how your mom is doing and if any follow up treatment is needed.
