My PSA went up about two years ago. Had a byopsy that came back negative. Three months later PSA went up to 8.2, another byopsy. Came back negative for cancer but positive for infection. Three months of Cipro. PSA went down to 5.9. Three months later back up to 8.2. Now doctor want another Byopsy. With all of the conflicting info out there I don't know what to do. Should I go for another byopsy or hold tight for some time and see what happens? I have scheduled another blood test for 3 months and another byopsy to follow.

Hi, my husband's cousin is a long time prostate cancer guy.

I think you should follow your docs advice. Biopsies are not too invasive and while all of this is a nuisance, you need to keep with it and not be discouraged.

Your life is precious and you are the one who has to take hold of things. Your doc will do his best, so best follow his advice!

Gentle hugs, Shirlann

Hi

Infections are a very well-known cause of elevated PSA levels that are not due to cancer. But it sounds that your doctor has a reason to believe that even after treating the infection your levels have not come down the way he liked. As stated above, prostate biopsies are fairly simples procedures, and it sounds like you have a good doctor taking care of you.

regards,
Leo

Shirlann - I don't know where you get the information that prostrate biopsies are not "too invasive", but here in the UK they are almost torture. My husband had one a couple of years ago for constantly elevated PSA, and they give no anaesthetic whatsoever for the procedure. He said they stuck this huge needle straight up his penis into the urethra, or whatever it is up there. He screamed with the pain and has said he will never ever undergo another biopsy. Just our two cents worth on an unimaginably painful procedure.
Contrast that with my bc biopsy prior to lumpectomy, where I had local anaesthesia and never felt a thing. No wonder men can be such wimps when it comes to pain if they are not offered pain relief before the procedure.
