Hi,
I have lost my mother to cancer April,10th,2006. The first time she used morphen patch was April,9th. Her body was so weak, she probably could not handle it.

I asked a question about how much time is left for my mother case when she was alive, I did not get real solid answers, which I know is actualy hard to predict. but I wanted to share with you the steps Mom went through.

1- diagnosed with unknown cancer source "metastatic Cancer" that showed up in her hip a year and half ago.

2- she started treatment based on the best guess and tests that it was breast cancer "she took Femara"

3- 6 month ago the cancer spread to her ribs, skull, and back

4- 4 month ago cancer spread to her lung, she started to have difficulty breathing, she used oxygen

5- 4 month ago she started chemo therapy at a low dose every 3 weeks.

6- for the last 4 month she would be in bed all the time, so weak to do any thing, chemo nailed her down, she lost all her energy and she was really suffering

7- after two chemo sessions she went off oxygen started to breath easy again.

8- after the 7th sessions of chemo "low dose chemo" she started deteriorating, she started to be very weak, drowsie, falling down, etc.

9- a week before death she started to fall down, her hands were getting cold, she was not able to eat, she was urinating very little

10- 3 days before death, she started to be not focussed, but she would be for most of the time focused.

11- 2 days before death her hands went numb and cold, only drinking juises and water.

12- the day of deaths she was in bed in a very bad shape, not focused, feeling she is not going to make it through the chemo.

13- 2 hours before death she lost speech and she could not hold juise and water in her stomch, she was kind of bringing what is in her stomach back.

14- minutes before she passed away her blood pressure droped to 80/50, then she just slipped away.

I just wanted to share with you, as too many of you would be wondering what are the stages and symptoms for approching death.

God bless her soul and bless you all.

Hey I am really sorry for the loss of your mom. I hope she's doing great and looking down from Heaven. Was she using a fentanyl patch? I am taking those and have been for about 6 months now to help me with my hip pains because of the decadron med that I took a couple yrs ago had ate up both of my hips. I had a total hip replacement just recently and I've been using the patches since to help ease the pain. I couldn't tell the difference whether or not the patch is on but I use them anyways. Man I don't know what to tell you but always stay positive, stay strong, and never give up.

Hi SFGiants13,

I am sorry I do not remember what was she taking for morphen, but she was in a stage that morphen was probably so strong for her weak body. Check with your doctor about the use of morphen effect. I hope you do better.
Take care
