How do you fight stress? Interesting question.
OK, you know you are stressed and you probably know the reason/s. So on Day One first thing is to make a list of all the reasons for your stress. Set the list aside until 24 hours later. Day Two pick ONE of your stressors, sit down and make a plan and a method to deal with it. Deal with it. You might only be able to do a little bit today but, eventually, you will get rid of that stressor. Day Three, pick another stressor. sit down and make a plan and method to deal with it. And so on to Day Four. You will feel good because you are taking action and are making a difference.
A very good stress releaser Is to Take Time For Yourself. Take a walk, do a crossword, phone a friend, go out for a coffee (decaf!), go to the department store to be among bright new things, etc, etc, etc.
When you feel stressed sit down and do slow deep breathing. Breathe in through your nose and inflate your abdomen. Breathe in through your nose and inflate your chest. Breathe in through your nose and inflate the top of the lungs.
At bedtime have a cup of warm milk, a calcium tablet, and a spoon of honey.
Try not to take valium or other pills.
Please read “Benzodiazepines: How They Work and How to Withdraw” by Prof C.H. Ashton, DM, FRCP at www.benzo.org.uk
If you are prescribed valium or other, take the smallest dose, say 2mgs valium at bedtime. Prof. Ashton's article gives approximate equivalent doses for the other drugs in the Chapter “What They Do to The Body”.
I, personally, do not like doctors who prescribe large doses and, to me, a large dose is more than 5 mgs valium twice a day.
Good luck. |

I was having some bad stress and anxiety probs not long ago, it was affecting my breathing and I would hyperventilate now and then. My doc said it ssounded like anxiety leading to depression.
Around that time I had put away my caffinated tea and switched to decaf. i was havig up to 3,4 cups of tea a day before that, and with that comes sugar. I took away my pop too, chocolate, anything with high caffein and high sugar. I do have a pepsi on occassion at a resteraunt, but its no biggy.
The difference though is amazing. I was grumpy and headachey for a few days with the withdrawal, but afterward was like, wow! The breathing trouble stopped, my mood picked right up, I stopped stewing and worrying over the uncontrable and replaying scenes over and over in my head(stewing again).
Just took away the caffein and it made an amazing difference! |

Sing.
Badly, if that's all you can do. (psst psst, that's how I do it)
It regulates breathing, and generally, you'll pick something you like. I sing something like that manah manah song (the one on the diet cherry vanilla dr. pepper commercial) It is a never-ending diddy and is mind-clearing. I'm sure any of the songs born on Sesame Street will work though.
It is the little things we forget to do when we get over-stressed.

There was a recent article in the Bangkok Post about a Thai grandmother who sings while strolling through Lumpini Park in Bangkok. She sings the same stanza over and over. The English translation is "Sweetheart, everybody has the right to love". I like it and sing it several times every day. The Thai lady says singing is the best mind-body medicine.
Another Thai, Dusdi, wrote "It (singing) is a great stress reduction activity, a nourishing food that helps them (the elderly) become stronger physically and mentally". and "Singing and music can boost the memory, stimulating your brain in a healthy, natural way. Music is believed to release endorphins which relieve anxiety and provide distraction from pain".
So all together now! Everybody has the right to love! |

..... still singing.....
What's that saying?
Sing and the world sings with you, stress, and you stress alone. |
