A funny incident during treatment...

One day during my bone marrow transplant treatment in April I awoke and my mom told me to walk up to this pin board that was on the wall. There was this large pin board that had pictures of my family that my dad posted up. Anyhow, my mom pointed at the pictures to see if my memory was still in tact and she asked me, "who's that?" pointing at the picture of my older sister. And when I looked at the picture I didn't say anything. And then she pointed at another picture of my dad and asked "who's that?" Again, I just looked and stared dumbfounded as if I had never seen these people ever before. Then she started getting worried and scared, pointing to another picture, saying "who's that..." And again I looked and I shrugged in confusion, thinking to myself who are these people? And that's when she screamed out "Aaaaaahhhhh!!" and she ran out of the room and tried to find our nurse and our doctor. I was really scared at that moment because I didn't know what was going on, and why my mom was freaking out. The good thing was that the memory loss only lasted for half a day, and our doctor even told us that I might experience this but only for a short time. Thank God that my memory did come back but that was so funny that my mom screamed and ran out of the room! I'll never forget it!

this is really good news that your memory came back
well i am trying to play a prank on my mom now by not recognising her
she will become so much afraid buti will reveal the truth within 10 minues otherwise she will lose her memory by shcok

wow you're crazy! But for me it was a really tough road going through the BMT. When I came back home, I almost forgot how to write my ABC's, read, and also draw (my favorite hobby). I felt like a baby all over again, where I had to teach myself and write the alphabet all over, and also try to draw all over by starting with stick men. It's like the BMT somehow erased my memory of who I am and what I used enjoy.

OK, I was going to go to bed but found this thread...

When I was first diagnosed in 1992, I worked in the hospital as a chaplain. I knew almost everyone and almost everyone knew me. One of my assigned areas was the ICU. After the biopsy, I was sent to the ICU.

1. If I called for a nurse to come and one did not come at once, I would unplug one of the lead to my monitor and would tap it on the ?plug? on my chest making the monitor go haywire. In seconds, I would have a room full of nurses. Very Happy

2. When the nurse would try to do a neuro check on me by asking me to stick out my tongue, I would stick it out? but to the side (a sign of neurological problems). Very Happy

3. When another patient started having real problem, I would tell the nurse to call one of the other chaplains. Very Happy

Of course, to each of these I got a scolding: ?Chaplain, behave!? I am sure that is why I was moved out as soon as possible. They also started talking about doing some very unpleasant things to me... like putting in a catheter. Shocked

I would not do either of these if I did not know the staff very well. They were my friends. Wink

a long time ago when i had a dental operatio, the first time i was knocked out by anesthetic, i woke up and a nurse was leaning over me. I couldn't read her name tag. I thought, "My Goodness! They've scrambled my brains!"

Turned out she had her tag on upside down!

I am a cancer survivor and found that my humor helped me through some real tough times. The worse things got, the funnier I became.

goodness-memory loss! even for a short term, its scary!
good that your memory came back, but funny part is that you do still remember how your mom shrieked and ran out of the room!
well, in times of pain and despair, only our sense of humor comes to help!
