Has anybody ever heard of only using Tamoxifen as a Prostate Cancer treatment?

My dad's doctor told him that because they caught the cancer early enough, he doesn't have to do radiation and he said the "Tamoxifen should do the trick."

I've read that Tamoxifen is being used to curb the side effects radiation for Prostate Cancer (ie. enlarged/painful breasts), but I've never heard of it as a treatment in and of itself for Prostate Cancer.

Can someone help me? I just want to make sure my dad's getting the right advice.
