My father had a scan done on his body for OTHER issues, but it was one of those, "oh by the way, we found this...." kind of senario.
Basically, there was a 7.6 cm mass on one of his kidneys, a decent size, however, he has no symptoms or pain nor blood in urine, which means something that isn't in the advanced stages.
But he plans on attending the Moffet Cancer Center in Tampa, FL which is associated with the Veteran's Administration hospitals...and is known to be "Well re-knowned" cancer center. Has anyone ever heard of this Cancer center, and if so, is a good place.
He's getting opinons from Drs now, and psosiblity of a Biopsy could be coming up. The most that could happen is have his kidney removed.
Has anyone here ever experienced Kidney Cancer issues and if so, could you share them with me ASAP? Next week he goes for his Doctor Appointments.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. |

| I do not have kidney cancer, but I did recently have surgery to remove a 7 cm tumor from directly above my right kidney. Like your father, mine was discovered by accident. They originally thought it was attached to the kidney, but later found it was the adrenal gland. I had the an adrenalectomy and radiation. |

Thanks Pony...as it stands now....they are going in for more throrough scans of that area....it shows up now as a rather almost perfectly round mass (guess they are going to take pictures at more different angles and such) So we'll see on that one....I'll keep you posted on more updates though
Thanks aagain |

Thank you....
THing is, it is the non-spreading kind of cancer I believe. Though it is big enough to warrant taking a kidney according to a Urologist. Though, we are wondering how LONG that mass was there. THing is, my dad is also a heart patient, and an involved operation could pose problems to his heart condition.
We will see on that one. So if htat's the case, we are wondering since it's a non-spreading cancer (malignant/benign, don't know which one)....we are wondering if he could just deal with the growth.
Thing is....we have no idea how long htat 7.5 cm mass was there, could have been there 10 or 20 years as afar as we konw, only to discover it now....how long till it grows even more? When he's 80? basically near the end of the typical human lifespan?
Why pose a risk of an operation if that's the case....it is quite debatable and a headach to figure out. |

| I know how hard it is to have everything up in the air and nothing to do but wait. I can't say much about the effects of a heart condition, I am only 19. I do know that there are many new developments in the medical field that address these issues. My best advice is to research as much as you can on the web and to get more than one opinion if possible. From my experiences and the experiences of others I can say that second(or third!)opinions are very valuable in making sure the right course of treatment is found. Hope that helps. |
