hi everyone

i've been having an unusual back pain these past few weeks. it started as a low back pain and then progressed with burning in the left low back and between my legs, burning on the posterior upper left thigh, burning down the posterior left thigh, then the same symptoms on the right side, and finally some tingling on my feet. however, there's no weakness or numbness. and the pain is on and off and occurs at different areas at different times. it seems to be better in the morning but starts again after i have a bowel movement. i'm worried a tumor might be compressing these nerves and as i move around, its compressing different nerves. and i think that after i have a bowel movement, the tumor might move back into a place where it compresses the nerves.

i know these back problems can be from anything, but i've had night sweats recently, am fatigued, and also i lost 15 pounds (about 9% of my body weight) in two months (which i thought was from a flu and some different eating habits). since then, i gained back about 7 pounds but it doesn't look like i gained any weight at all (which worries me that there might be a tumor growing). another big risk factor for me is that i'm on immunosuppresion for a recent kidney transplant and i'm at a 50X higher risk for lymphoma.

my labs have looked fine and my family doctor wasn't concerned. i'm going to get a second opinion next week and ask for an mri.

has anyone else had these types of symptoms and if my second opinion doesnt seem worried at all, should i get another? thanks for any input or advice.

Hi TomRocks and welcome to the Cancer Forums.

First off, I am a cancer patient, and not a cancer doctor, but your symptons (back pain, night sweats, fatigue, and weight loss), plus the risks associated with your recent a kidney transplant would cause me to (not walk but) RUN to the nearest facility where you can be properly evaluated by qualified personnel with hi-tech equipment. In my case it was the CT-Scan that first showed my lymphoma (later verified by6 a PET-Scan) + a bioposy analyzed by my Oncologist.

Even if all this shows you to be benign, at least it will be a huge load off your shouders. And if not, you'll be dealing with the major leaguers within the medical field who are equipped and educated to provide prover treatment.

My prayers go with you

Burt

yeah i'm going in on tuesday to a new doctor and lay it all out to him and ask for a ct scan or mri. my old doctor didn't seem to really think anything is wrong but want to know at least for a peace of mind whats going on. its been two weeks since i've suspected lymphoma and the stress is killing me. i'll update once i talk to the new physician.
