Hello all. I just found out (a few hours ago) that my father has cancer. My cousin who is a nurse called me and gave me some information. My father does not want to tell us (sons) until he talks to the dr. next week. I do not know a lot about cancer and I took some notes as she was telling me and this is what I wrote down:

Liver does not have cancer --grandoloma ?

Maybe lung cancer. There is something in the lung unknown what. They will do a biopsy to find out what it is.

Spleen full of cancer. Completely ingulfed. Twice the normal size. From 6cm and a lot between 2-4 cm.

Spleen is twice the normal size and has pushed the left kidney out of its normal position.

There is a cist on his right kidney.

They did some test for cancer and normal is 0-15 and his was 64

His back is deteriorating

Decreased abdominal fat- shows immune system is bad

The cancer cells are not throughout body

If someone can explain some of this to me I would appreciate it. I know it is bad because he has lost a lot of weight recently. Thanks in advance.

It's a shock to find out that a loved one or friend has cancer. It is difficult for a lay person to give an opinion. The good news seems to be that the cancer is not throughout the body and not in the liver. You will have to ask the cancer specialist what it all means. Do not be afraid to ask questions - it is the specialist's duty to answer all questions fully.

I didn't know that decreased abdominal fat showed a poor immune system. I have been told: Does a lowered immune system allow a cancer or does the cancer lower the immune system?

I do hope that your Dad will come through this. Ask all your family and friends to send good wishes, thoughts, and prayers. Loving support is important. Also, I firmly believe that the mind and soul help the body fight off this illness. Perhaps your Dad would like to think about what could be right for him. One of the most important things about the healing process is that your Dad must get rid of any "baggage", meaning he must forgive everyone who has ever done him wrong, and he must forgive himself for anything he has done wrong. Let it go. It was all part of a learning process. Forgive and let it go.

I hope this helps. Let us know what the specialist says. Your Dad and all the family are in our thoughts and prayers,

Val.
