Hi my dad has secondary liver cancer and his bile ducts are blocked, right now he is jaundice, his feet are a little inflamated and so it's his stomach I guess, just not much. Although Dr is running some tests and plans to see my dad next Wednesday he said there was not much he could do. Tonight he has pain, not much, seems to be manageable without drugs although he just took a pain medication not very strong.

I am so sad, I am newly pregnant of my first child after battling infertility for 6 years and I had to hire someone that's staying with my parents to help him and my mom, I am the only daughter living here as my only sister lives overseas.

My mom said he has been feeling particulary tired today and stayed in bed most of the time since noon. I so wish not to see him in pain Crying or Very sad he is my sunshine, the very best dad in the world, my best friend, the man that made me all I am today. My heart is broken.

I am looking for your stories, words of support or information as of what should I expect as honestly I think he is in his last stages specially considering that his bile ducts are shut and he is no candidate for stents. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Hi karolynca. I am very sorry about your father's cancer. You say that it is a secondary liver cancer. Where is the primary cancer? This particular forum is for people with PRIMARY liver cancers. You will probably get more appropriate replies with this post was moved to the forum addressing your father's primary cancer. I can move this topic for you.

I ways the primary care provider for both of my parents when they had cancer. My heart really does go out to you. It is not easy to see someone you love so much being that sick Sad.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for replying, his story goes like this, he was operated as an emergency because he was evacuating and vomiting blood back in November, the Dr discovered a mass the size of a softball that was surrounding the liver, bile ducts and also connected to part of the small bowels. The Dr. said that probably it originated at the small bowel but since it was so spread and so surrounding the liver they are not sure if maybe originated around the bile ducts, so honestly we don't have an answer for that. The bleeding he had was the tumor that infiltrated in the small bowels so he had to have his small bowel and stomach kind of cut and reattached the procedure was a subtotal gastroctomy (sp?). The oncologist did say the major organ in risk and where there was 90% of chances the cancer spread was to the liver. Right now that's where it is...sadly. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place I will accept suggestions as to where I can post in the forums.

karolynca, no need to apologize. It is just a matter of where you will receive the more appropriate information and hear stories that more accurately can be compared to your. However, since you do not know where the primary is, this forum is alright.

Have the actually done a biopsy? A biopsy will at least inform your father's medical team of the cell type they are dealing with. The cell type more than the specific primary location will govern what options for treatments are available to your father. It does sound like it is a very advanced and aggressive cancer.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so much Jim, you have been of incredible support. Yes the did a biopsy, all they said was that it was a Stage IV Neoplasia that most probably originated either in the small bowels or in the bile ducts, due to the tumor location they think it was in the bile ducts or surrounding the liver. My dad was a heavier smoker for years, he quitted only 6 years ago.

In terms of treatment the Dr said that Chemo or Radiation could kill him faster as he had to undergo a very aggressive operation and 7 blood transfusions besides he said all we could win with those procedures were mere 2 months of life more if the side effects didn't kill him first. He has high blood pressure and since he was a smoker he has enfisema so as you can see what's really killing me is the sit and wait game Crying or Very sad
