Hello, thanks to all who answered my previous post regarding my dad's lung cancer. Quick question...I have read that Tarceva has been known to shrink a tumor but will one actually "get better"? My dad is in stage 4 and just given 3-6 months to live, is on oxygen 24/7, has emphysema, diabetes, heart condition. He is pretty weak and sits most of the day in his chair. Is it possible that Tarceva will make him less weak where he can become more active? I know that the efficacy rate of the medication is very small but I'd like to know if there is a chance that the quality of his remaining days will be heightened.

Lorri,

Tarceva has been known to improve how the patient feels if it affects something that the actual cancer is causing. How was your Dad prior to this? He has other complications, so those won't go away. My husband, while on traditional chemotherapy, showed dramatic improvement when the tumors got smaller and stopped compressing his bronchial tubes. If the cancer is causing some of the same issues for your Dad, then Tarceva may improve his symptoms.
