I read the other post and it is very good because my husband and I have had problems with which foods. I do have some papers but still confusing. Neither of us is good with foods. Never had that much of a problem until recent years.

We could use help on this one. When having a Pet Scan the 48 hours is to be Low Carb, Low Sugar, High Protein Diet.

NO Potatoes, bread, pasta, cereal, rice, snack foods, like chips, cookies, cake. Alcohol, etc.

You may have: Any meat: fish, chicken, beef or pork
You may have: Dairy products: cheese, milk, yougurt, eggs.

The first scan he had, he didn't eat much. This Sunday at noon had to start again for a scan that was to be Tuesday. It was re-scheduled Monday for the 7th now. I talked with the girl at the Pet Scan place today and she said they are trying to work up a menu list and that would be great.

I can get the meat but what do you eat for meals with it. I am not creative, nor understand. He almost ate some fruit and she said that was too much sugar. Question

So far we seem to have meat, green beans, broccoli, lettuce salad. He can have cottage cheese.

There are 2 days of eating like this. We will figure something out. Anyone have any ideas let me know. Thanks,

I'm surprised it is two days before with the restricted diet. Things must have changed, because my husband only needed to do it one day before. Hmmm...

He didn't eat any veggies, fruits, or dairy.

Basically he drank water, ate meat and eggs like crazy. He kept it very limited so we didn't mess up. He didn't think you could have dairy, so stayed away from that too. Don't know if he had to but, like I said, he kept it very simple and that's how he relayed it to me after talking with the scan place. I never actually got the list of what he could eat or not, so went on what he told me.

Good luck!

I didn't even know there was any restrictions before a PET scan. I do not remember; I only have had one and that was a long time ago. Learn new things every day around here Wink

The Pet Scan imaging place is Insight Imaging. Seems very reputable. They actually give you a paper and it states 48 Hours.

I went searching the Internet and found a few places that looked reputable and they all showed 24 hours also.

This is not a big thing. If there is a reason that they like it better with 48 hours, fine. We will be asking them about this when we see them next. We just want to do whatever is the best.

BTW, when I say 'we', most of it is my husband. We work it together. I know what he goes thru is much much worse than what I deal with. If any of you hear anything contrary to this, let me know.

I did a little research of my own and also saw that some tell you not to eat 24 hours before the test while others say 48. But they all agree on the underlying reason. The PET scan uses sugar intake to make the cancer cell glow because cancer cells burn more sugar than normal cells. So they do not want your over all system to already be louded with sugars. Maybe you already knew this; I did not Embarassed.

Wow! How interesting your post was. Thanks for the input. I didn't even realize the why of the diet. Makes sense. I do believe the more you understand the better it is. Maybe not for everyone or about everything but for many it helps to know why you do something.

Normally I try to check things out. Not overboard but enough to kow what it going on. However, with the cancer, it was all just too much too fast and just went with what I could. Some days can only look for so long. Have to also get away from it sometimes.

Thanks Jim.
