Does anyone know if you can have normal blood work and still have colon cancer?

I was in the hospital last week for what they diagnosed as diverticulites, they used IV pain meds and IV antibiotics and I got better and got out.

However, My (sorry I know this is To much info) but my bowel movement is still very thin. I still have a bit of pain.

I see the GI guy to scedule the colonoscopy but I was wondering, could they have missed colon cancer in the hospital? They did massive blood work, a CT with contrast, pelvic and liver ultrasound.

My grandmother died of colon cancer at age 55, and I am a little scared.

anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

Hi - Your poor guts have been through a lot!

My instinct is to say that with all that happening, you will need time to let your gut heal and that it may be worth looking at taking probiotics and particularly acidophilus to encourage healing.

The range of tests you quote should have revealed anything untoward, so I would look at allowing your body a bit more time to get over all that has happened.

surfergirl7, I am very sorry about your diverticulites. I know that divirticulites can cause a lot of pain.

I do not know whether or not there are any tumor markers associated with colon cancer. If not or if your medical team did not run those tests, a routine blood test (CBC) would not be useful in determaning if you have cancer.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
