My partner was dnx with pc on Jan 22. They saw a 3cm mass in the head of the pancreas and said that it was very aggressive. She is 49 years old and always been very healthy. They did a whipple last Thursday also taking the spleen as well. The pathology report came back this week and they say they did not get it all and that it was in the surrounding tissues and lymph nodes as well. The ongologist came in the other night and said that she wanted her to heal from the surgery which should take about 6 weeks and take the trip to Saint Thomas that she wanted to take then call her when she gets back from trip. My question is what to expect now. From everything I have seen there is not much we can to except slow it down with cemo but that is it which and my partner said she does not want to do that. Please help me to understand what to expect in the near future. Any adivse or information would be great. Thanks

My father in law was almost exactly like your partner. Partial whipple was done in July and doctors found some liver arterial involvement and could not remove it all. After 6-8 weeks of healing, they have put him on a regiment of chemo/radiation which has just ended about 3 weeks ago. This went on for several months. His CA-19 numbers have been lowered. He sees the surgeon next week and they hope the tumor has shrunk enough to go back in and do further surgery. Surgery is the best chance for a prolonged survival. Perhaps your partner may fit into that category. Best of luck to you!!

gibby5150, I am very sorry about your partner's cancer. Not having all of it removed it troublesome. It means that she will have to be treated very aggressively. She will have to take chemotherapy. The specific chemotherapy is up to her medical team. She may go from on chemo to another in order to find the one that will work. Her prognosis is not very good.

You and your partner are in my thoughts and prayers.
