Hi Smile I am 29 years old, healthy (or so i thought) and just had my 1st baby 3 days before I was diagnosed with stage IV rectal cancer with mets to the liver. It was considered "inoperable/incureable". After very successful chemotherapy, and lots of natural therapies (5 months after diagnosis) I got my first PET/CT. It shows that the cancer is "dormant".... I do still have the tumors, though they do not show up as cancerous on the PET scan.

The report conclusion states: "There is no abnormality on this scan to indicate the presence of residual metabolically active malignancy. This complete metabolic response presumable reflects the effect of chemotherapy, however without a baseline study it is not possible to be certain of this interpretation."

The oncologist seemed suprised with these results.... but has anyone had a similar response? Is this normal? I've tried to look up info about "dormant cancer", but it seems like there's not too much known about it.....

Thanks so much for any info anyone can offer!!!

Hi Alisa. They did not do a PET scan prior to starting the chemotherapy??? It is possible that it never changed. Anyhow, it is good news that it is not active now. Some cancer stop growing for various reasons. You just should keep a watch on it with a PET scan on a regular basis.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
