My sister just had the Whipple procedure last week and got results back on lymph nodes. 3 of 18 removed were cancerous. She will undergo Chemo and Radiation as soon as she recuperates from the surgery.

Does anyone have information on survival rate based on this information? Is this Stage 3?

I look forward to any info you can share.

Thanks

Hi Betsy, I am truly sorry about your sister's cancer. I am not sure how to stage Pancreatic Cancer. Did the doctors say it was a stage 3 or are you just guessing? For many cancer, it it is found outside of the organ of origin it is called a Stage IV. However, as I said, I do not know it this is the case for Pancreatic Cancer.

The prognosis is not good for a Stage III or IV Pancreatic Cancer... just a few years at the most. However, having said that, if my prognosis had been right, I would have died at least 5 years ago. I am interested in my prognosis only in order to set my priorities of things I still want to do in this life. However, after that I tend to set the prognosis aside and just try to accomplish those goals.

I would suggest that you read the following threat and website of one of our long-term survivors. He survived with stage IV for almost 3 years after diagnosis.

I hope his story will give your sister courage to live whatever her prognosis is. I will be thinking about and praying for your sister.
