Hello everyone..I have been reading posts for a few days and decided that there are alot of wonderful people with alot of advice here. So i am joining in prayer with all. I noticed indentation and e few days later a lump was felt. Had my first mamm. ever on 3/2/05. Since that day have had three more mamms. Ihave invasive DC, scheduled for lumpectomy on 4/1/05 with SNB and wire localization previous to surgery. Does anyone know if this wire localization procedure is painful??
Ihad a bad experience with core needle biopsy (not being completely numbed up) so I felt the first two extractions. So I'm a little nervous about being poked at again.Any info appreciated and thinking of all.

Sorry that you have been diagnosed and have ended up on our discussion group. However, there are a lot of wonderful women here who will help you cope and give you advice.
I had the wire localization done before the lumpectomy and as I recall there was no pain. They did a good job of numbing the area and there was no pain after recovery. I would, however, talk with your surgeon and others to tell them of your concerns and past experience to be sure they understand that this is important to you. I found it never hurts to remind them that you're not a number and that you are a team working together to provide you with the best health options there are.
Let us know how it goes.

I also had a wire localization. I was so afraid before hand, and insisted that the doctor write an order for a 'strong' relaxant. He agreed. However, somewhere in the confusion of the day, the order was overlooked, and I was wheeled to Radiology without any pre-meds. I was so afraid.
outcome? The numbing was the worse part (and that was hardly anything at all). After that, i felt nothing.

Thanks sooo much for the info. I am feeling a little better about the wire localization. Good to know it should not be painful. My surgery is 4-1-05 I'll let everyone know how things went. God Bless and be well. _________________ Dx 3-17-05,breast cancer

Hello
The wire-localization may be painful, but with good anesthesia you may be able to feel very comfortable. In addition to local anesthesia they might opt to give you some sedative to help you relax. You will be a bit drowsy but it will make you feel better.
regards,

Welcome to our community. Sorry about your need to be here, but glad you found an internet support group. By now you surgery is all over and you are recovering. I've had two biopsies done with wire localization. Neither one was terribly uncomfortable. I hope yours was not painful. At the hospital where I had my biopsies, the radiologists said most doctors use the wire localization procedure. That way they don't miss what they are looking for. Let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it, Lauri _________________ Diagnosed 4/11/1996

hello again..Thanks for the encouraging support. Surgery went as expected. I am recovering well..the usual I suppose..Very tired and some soarness especially at node removal site. The wire localization was not painful but quite uncomfortable for me. I made it through just fine with the help of some sedatives. Next step radiation therapy appt.
It is helpful to read the different posts and all of the responses from everyone. Thanks again. God Bless and be well! _________________ Dx 3-17-05,breast cancer

Hi all...
I ended up in surgery again on 4/8/05. Had positive sentinel node so needed axillary dissection also..had to go into tumor site and remove more tumor. 1 of 6 margins was not clear! At that time had porta-catheter installed for chemotherapy. Was hoping not to have to do chemo treatments but finding positive nodes makes chemo inevitable I guess. I don't know my treatment plan as of yet. Appt with rad. onc. on 4/11 and medical onc. is not until 4/18. I am reading up on all of your posts regarding chemotherapy. I am real scared!! Will keep in touch thanks again for your support ...Hope all is well..Stay positive and God Bless!! _________________ Dx 3-17-05,breast cancer

3pturk,
I'm going through chemo now and it is doable. Nothing to be scared of. Just find out all you can and go with it. Some days you will feel bad and other days you will be fine. A good website for finding side effects of chemo drugs is www.chemocare.com. _________________ Shelly

I am so sorry for the positive findings. Many of the women on this forum have done chemotherapy successfully, and coped well.
They told me that chemo would offer me a 1-2% greater survival potential, so I chose not to do chemo (we can never foresee the future, so hope I don't live to regret this decision).
I did have an axillary node dissection too. I am sorry you had to go through that surgery; its not the most comfortable.
I am hoping you heal quickly, and recover well.
Hugs
