Dear friends, i'm new here. I wish i could receive some useful information from all of u. Very Happy

My boyfriend has been having brain tumor since year 2000. Few days ago, his doctor told him that he could stop doing chemotherapy, there is no point of doing it anymore as the tumor is growing bigger and bigger now. He has 2 more years to go. Nevertheless, the doctor advised him to eat more heathily, which is no meat, no oily and spicy food, etc.

Hence, I 'd like to ask what kind of food (eg, fruit juice and vegetables) which I can cook and easily prepare for him to eat every day and night.

Or what normally do u cook for your cancer patient who are in this stage?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

Dear Springs,

I can understand perfectly why you and your boyfriend would want to follow his doctors advice.

So what Im about to say will not be helpful to you , but my own personal opinion.

If I were in your boyfriends situation and I only had a couple of years left I would eat and drink what made me happy!

I love spicy food and I like a drink now and again, so I wouldnt deprive myself of the things I love. Im sorry to hear about your situation and I wish you both all the best.

Stay strong xxxx Jenny.

Springs, I agree with Jenny. Maintain a healthy died but basically give your boyfriend whatever he wants to eat. I suspect that his appetite will decrease anyhow and it will be better for him to eat something rather than to eat nothing!

I also have to humbly question the doctor's prognosis... no more treatments but still two more years to live? That may be appropriate in some cases but it just does not sound very aggressive to me. Has your boyfriend asked for a second opinion? Do you know specifically what type of cancer your boyfriend has?

As for a good discussion about nutrition and cancer, try the following thread:

You and your boyfriend are in my thoughts and my prayers. Keep us informed.

Dear all, thank you very much for your replies and concern.
Brainman, I can't recall the name of his illness. It starts with Hyper xxxxx and he's in stage 3 now.

Last week, he was fainted and luckily his friends were with him. They quickly sent him to the hospital. I notice that he fainted twice last month. I'm very worried. Does it mean that his illness is getting worse and worse?

I went to visit him last night and he was complaining that his forehead was painful. Hence, he bought some medicine from his doctor (since he was not advised to do chemotherapy).

This afternoon i called him and got to know that he was still sleeping and sound very tired. He told me that he couldn't move at all, just lay in bed. I'm not sure if it's due to the medicine that he took last night.

Normally he visits his doctor by himself as I need to work during day time. I wish i could apply leaves and accompany him to the hospital some days.

I'll post more information from time to time to keep you guys update.

Thanks alot!

Springs, I am sorry about your boyfriend's decreasing strength. Not knowing the type of cancer he has or what the medication he took is, I cannot even begin to guess as to why he has slept more than usual. I continue to think about and pray for you and your boyfriend.

I think I would get a second opinion, that's strange the doctor would just stop treatment.

As for the diet, I asked both of my neuro oncologists if diet and exercise can help survival and they said no. But, they both said that diet and exercise are good things to maintain. One of them also said that there haven't been too many diet related studies on brain tumors, so there really isn't a clear answer on it.

Thanks crispiss and brainman for your kind reply.

Recently, my bf had a wild pain on his head. He couldn't stand it and went to visit the doctor. After checking, he told him that the tumor is actually growing bigger and bigger now. He's worried that my bf might not be able to have another 2 years to live, which means he would die soon. Additionally, many activities are not allowed to do, eg, exercise. He is not encouraged to sweat alot.

Anyhow, in order to reduce the pain, the doctor gave him some medicine to eat.

I went to visit him last night and he was very sad..kept on telling me that he doesn't want to die so fast. I cried in front of him as I couldn't control my emotion. Besides, the doctor said that the rapid growth of his tumor might be caused by his blood, which is B- , not clean and is not as thick as a normal person's blood. Hence, he needs to change blood. However, there are not many people who have got this blood type.

May I ask.. does the blood type indicate anything? Or does it affect his tumor? As usual, he is always tired and sleepy.

I didn't ask my oncologists or surgeons specifically that question, but they said that they basically don't know what causes tumors. They think their may be a genetic link in a small number of cases, but that's all they can speculate. I would doubt blood type has anything to do with it.

Spring, I might be wrong but I have never heard of the blood type having anything to do with cancer. There are some genetics tests that the doctor can run on a blood sample to determine if your boyfriend has a better chance of responding to chemotherapy. But that is totally different than just blood type.

Let us know if you find out anything more on this subject. I will do some research as well.
