Hi, this is my first post, so I hope you all hear me out. I know you guys may not me doctors but please take this into account: My family has no history of skin cancer, and we are Chinese.

Now for my story. I've had this funny looking spot on the side of my middle finger for a long time. It showed signs of change, asymmetry, and was more than one shade of brown. When I got it checked out by a dermatologist, he said that there was no problem and it did not have to be removed. I remember him saying that moles change all the time, and that if it had shades of one color, it was okay.

I really don't want to sound paranoid, but is he correct? I mean I always thought that moles that werent uniform in color were suspicious, and theres the whole change thing. Thanks

Hi CGB, one questions: Did you dermatologist just look at it or did he do a biopsy? If it has changed in appearance, he/she should do a biopsy to make sure that it is not cancer. My advice if he did not do a biopsy is to go back and request him to do one.

All he did was look at it and pretty much told me that there was no problem. He also told me that the changes were of no concern and that it was good I was keeping track.

I would have it biopsied just in case. My dermatologist admitted after he found out I had melanoma that he didn't know at the time it was.
