Our family was just hit with the news that my father has pancreatic cancer which has already spread to his liver. We just received this devastating news on Monday. He was told that it would be wise for him to start taking care of stuff and get things in line as he may only have several months to a year. I'm so afraid for my dad. I don't want to lose him.
Before this happened I can honestly say that I didn't know much about this kind of cancer. It seems that everything I am seeing online regarding this cancer is really bad.
My dad is 63 years old and he started complaining about his stomach about a month ago. He finally went and got checked last week and was told Monday that it was pancreatic cancer which has already spread to his liver. He went to the onocologist yesterday and they said that his liver has a few spots on it, but that it appears to be working perfectly fine at this point. I don't know what to make of that. I know they are doing a biopsy on Tuesday of his liver to find out more info. From that point on they will be determining what is the best course of action for him.
Does anyone have any information on websites that might be helpful to learn more about this? Thank you!

Hi Traci,
I am sorry to hear about your father. The pancreatic cancer diagnosis is never good news. It is worth noting, however, that the progress of the disease can vary widely. In my case, I am coming up on three years since my diagnosis with pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and while I am in stage IV, I am still able to get around and do much of what I could before. I have gone through a Whipple procedure surgery, radiation, and round after round of chemotherapy, and while this is hard in and of itself, I cannot complain about it. I am still here, with my family.
On my web site there are a number of resources which you might find useful. It may be found here:

Hello,
My brother was diagnosed nearly 2 years ago with stage IV pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver. He started chemo the week he was diagnosed and although he suffered through every nasty side effect of the drugs, he made it to work nearly every day! He lived in a state of denial about this disease which is what I think helped him to stick around so long! He had some good days and some bad ones but we are grateful that he was with us for so long. He is now in the hospital and we are making him comfortable. Please make the most of the time that you have together.
Best Wishes
Lucia |
