I just have a question. I have a growth on my arm. I thought it was just an age spot. You know, the flat light brown patches. But it has been getting bigger and bigger and then 2 months ago it got a little bump on it. I thought it was just a pimple but it doesn't go away. The area is not symetrical either. So now I am freaking out.
Anyway, I did not have insurance so I haven't gotten it looked at. I HAVE signed up for some now and it should be active in another 10 days and then I plan to get my butt down to a dermotoglists office asap.
But in the meantime, I am freaking out! Is it possible to have something like this and it NOT be cancerous? I am just so scared right now. I am trying to be positive and not think about it but it's hard not too. |

Mirasi -
I don't know the answer to your question - don't know much about the skin - but a couple of things - My friend had a precancerous mole/growth on her back that the doctor cut out - she is fine now - has to go back for check ups every year to make sure that it's not growing back - and once had to have it cut again - but that's the worse of it
My Dad also had skin cancer on both of his cheeks and used some kind of medication to basically peel the layers of skin off and get rid of it - he's now dealing with liver cancer but that's a whole other story.
The biggest thing I can tell you right now is to try and calm yourself - otherwise the next 10 days will feel like forever - I know it's extremely hard not to think about what's going on - you certainly cannot control what comes into your head - what you can control to a certain extent is your reaction - when something creeps in try to breath deeply and relax - I know that sounds easier than it is but you're gonna make yourself crazy and end up with bigger problems.
Keep coming back to this site and posting - the people here are wonderful - I've only been on here a short while but it's been extremely helpful to know that no one is alone in their struggles, fears, whatever.
I wish you a speedy couple of weeks to get to the doctors - make sure you come back and let us know how you make out.
Take care....breathe.....

Agree with above. Just try to keep your mind off of it and see a doctor ASAP. Good luck. _________________ RLee, MD

Mirasi,
I have a bump under my right arm, right between my elbow and shoulder. Its right under the skin, it feels like a rock and its odly shaped (about 1/3 of an inch in size) It has been there ever since I can remember. I noticed it when i was about 8 years old, im 22 right now. It doesnt hurt or anything and i really dont pay much attention to it. Im pretty sure its nothing. You should definitely have your bump checked out, but DONT stress about it. Whats stressing out about it going to do? Its certainly not going to make it go away
Best Wishes. _________________ LOTS of info @ http://www.sodnet.net/cancer/cancer_research.html |

Hi Mirasi, No need to freak out. Others have said it but it is worth repeating: Get thee to a doctor ASAP!! The bad news is that your new insurance my consider it to be a pre-existing condition anyhow. It just depends on the insurance company. Be thinking about you and praying for you. _________________ Jim
