I went yesterday to my first oncologist appointment and noticed that the closest person to my age (37) was in the least 15 years older than me and found this forum and wondered if there are people my age going through the same things that I am or not.

You are certainly not alone. Although I am 50 now, my first bout with breast cancer was at 44. While sitting in my PS waiting room two weeks ago, I noted that 3 out of the 5 women there were in their early 30's.

There is a good website called youngsurvival.org. While there are women of all ages that go there, I think you will find a good majority of the women are around you age.

Good luck.

There's much more young people with breast cancer nowadays than few years ago.

Although, in the last 10 years the number of people winning over breast cancer has passed from 20% to 82%, it's now all win yet, but there are many solution now suitable for most people.

Believe, always belive.

Hello! I am 36 and was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer, no lymph involvement, in early March. I had a lumpectomy with 1 lymph node removed on March 21, my port placed this past Friday, and I am going for my first chemo treatment (of 6, followed by radiation) today. I found the lump myself in January; was incredibly sore before my period, and found a large lump. It went down after I started, so everyone thought it was something inflammatory; even the surgeon was surprised when the needle biopsy came back positive.

Both my grandmothers had breast cancer (one had 'mirror' cancer, a lump in each breast in the same place), and my great-grandmother died of breast cancer when she was 38. (That was a long time ago and she refused to even go see a doctor.)

So you're not alone! Wink

I'm in my mid-fifties, but there are many younger women I have met during my journey. I met one dynamic young survivor who is incredibly inspirational. She and three of her friends wrote a book called "Nordie's At Noon." They are four young gals each diagnosed with BC. If I remember correctly, three were in their 20's and the fourth was in her early 30's. They would get together at Nordstrom's for gooey dessert and mutual support.

I wish you success on your journey and a full and speedy recovery.

Jo

I had just turned 43 when I was dx Stage III, ILC. I've met a lot of women in their mid 30's to mid 40's when they were dx. I've also met a few ladies in the late 20's. This disease doesn't care about anything, including age. Before I was dx, I thought family hx had a lot to do with it, but nope, just about 10-15%. I'm the 1st one as far as my parents can go back to ever be dx with BC.
