As the Meso forum is now closed I'm hoping someone can be of assistance here.
I have breast cancer mets on my lungs nine years after the initial diagnosis and surgery. I also had extensive exposure to asbestos 1986-1990 when I took history tours in underground military fortifications.
The question: Has there been any research into early symptoms of Asbestosis or Mesothelioma? My BC mets have diminished and the oncologist does not think my 'ache' on my left hand side is associated with that. I'm thinking fluid might be the first symptom- I'm paranoid I know but need to clear my mind. _________________ Bethany in sunny Sydney |

Info from the NCI website regarding meso.

# What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleura are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling due to a buildup of fluid in the abdomen. Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.
These symptoms may be caused by mesothelioma or by other, less serious conditions. It is important to see a doctor about any of these symptoms. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis. _________________ RLee, MD

Thank you Dr Rlee, I very much appreciate the time you've spent answering our questions. There are alot of people unable to articulate their concerns to a doctor face to face spontaneously and often after the consultation many wandering thoughts cloud the mind. Thanks again.
Sending warm hugs to all those who are suffering today. _________________ Bethany in sunny Sydney |
