mum was diagnosed with GBM4 at easter 06. after a 90% resection she underwent an intensive six week course of chemo and radiotherapy. then continued to have chemo orally for five days, once a month.
in october, an mri scan showed a very small dark mass where the tumour had been, but the neurologists and other specialists could not decide whether it was tumour or scar tissue from the resection.
everywhere i go online to find out whether GBM is curable, says it isnt, so do the specialists. but a friend of mine told me she read an artical where a woman had completely gotten rid of her tumour, and it was the same type and grade as my mums.
just wondering if anyopne had any information on getting rid of GBM4.

Hi Jax,
Doctors do not use the word “cured” very often with any cancer… especially a GBM. However, there are cases of long-term survivors… or should I say “longer”-term survivors? GBMs are one of the hardest cancers to cure. However, do not give up. She is still alive. I do not know how long she has. Enjoy that time as much as you and she can.
I will be thinking and praying for you and your mother.

we got told 12-18 months, its quickly approaching the 12 month mark now, but she seems relatively ok, she stumbles over her words, but that is apparently caused by the treatment, not the tumour. and she gets shakes, but that is apparently caused by the epilepsy triggered by the tumour prior to diagnosis. i just dont know where i stand, and its bugging me. |
