following abnormal DRE 3yr ago I have had two separate biopsies, both neg.In same period of time my psa has gone from .08 to .20 (four tests)
will a tran rectal ultesound show presence of cancer or is biopsy only way to confirm.I am 59 no symtoms but am worried about increasing PSA,or is it still to low to be of concern??
I am sure these doctors woulde test you ad infinitum, after all someone has to pay for their new cars and ex wives.when is enough enough??
Thanks-Joe

Hi Joe,

I am not a doctor, but I am slightly confused as to why you are having so many biopsies and PSA tests when your PSA is quite low and rising only very slowly. I think it is not unusual to have PSA at that level at our age.

Are you having all these tests because there is a history of PC in your family? in asking that, I don't want to pry into your business of course.

As you can see from my post of 13/11/06, my PSA rose steadily from 4.42 to 8 over a period of 3 years. This was caused by BPH which apparently is quite common at our age.

While it's obviously good to keep an eye on these things, I think you may be worrying yourself too much about this and I know how easy it is to worry!

I would say to have a PSA that low at your age is absolutely amazing. Not only would a figure that low at 59 be a clear cut indicator of no cancer present, it's just flat out amazing! Don't worry.

You can start to worry once you get up to at least 6.0 or so!
