I don't see my onco until 2/14 and I'm sure PCPs aren't up to date on things re: BC like oncos are. Here's my question. I know that Arimidex can raise choloesterol, thanks to you checking on that for me. I'm on 40mg of Zocor and will be rechecked in about a month. Is there any cholesterol med that seems to work better when the REAL high tryglic. (sp) are caused from Arimidex or regardless of the cause of the high numbers, anyone of the meds will work as good as the other?
Thanks

Hey !
Long time no see !
Anyway, generally speaking we do not have good drugs to control triglycerides. The drugs we have do work, at the cost of many side-effects. Drugs that I can cite are fibrates (gemfibrozil, fenobifrabte) and nicotinic acid derivatives (Niacor, Niaspan). Statins also do help, especially the more potent ones like atorvastatin (Lipitor) and rosuvastatin (Crestor). A big part of controlling high TG comes from the diet, weight reduction and exercise.
best regards,

You feel the ones that you listed would help more then zocor? Exercise, o.k. I might have slacked off on that a "little" lol but my diet is everything boring and low fat, low cholesterol and low in taste.... lol I have gained weight with chemo even though it's been 2 1/2 years since my last one and of course chemo putting me into menopause hasn't helped the weight. I've lot about 6 of the 30+ I put on, but it seems to stall out there. I guess it's time to use the treadmill instead of it just taking up space... lol
I about feel out of my seat when he said my triglycerides were 620 when I had never had a problem before, but now I know Arimidex can make those number go up and up, that explains it.
It seems like when you take one drug, there's another one you have to take to combat the side affects. I take Arimidex to hopefully prevent a reoccurence, but it could cause my arterties to clog and have a heart attack.........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yep, we need a cure yesterday.

This is scary. I looked up zocor to see if it caused heartburn because I've had to take Nexium especially since he upped me to 40mg. I can't remember the exact wording, but one of the warnings was if you were taking anything to do with hormones (not sure if they meant HRT or like me Arimidex to kill them) and also caused certain tumors to grow, but didn't cause them to mutate. I now I'm NED, thank God, but I'm going to quit taking this. With my age and Stage III, I'm not taking any chances. Do you read the warning the same as me? Which one is the safest for BC ladies and the most effective?
Thanks
Nancy without taking Zocor tonight
I'll have to call the PCP and tell him what I want changed to when you have a chance to check on that........THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ Nancy

I'm talking to myself again and answering my own posts, you better hurry Leo........LOL
I talked to the pharm. at the Cancer Institute I go to and he said that in his opinion, Zocor is the least of the evils as far as side affects. He said they all have risks, but I obviously need to get my levels down and when they did the studies on rats, there was no ammune system like people have. He said that if I was his wife or sister, he would rather see me on zocor because the others have more risks and some even have a risk of causing cancer and once we have been dx, we're more prone to get another kind.
You agree or disagree?
I'll wait for you this time
