hi , my question is . what exactly does a seriously high ca 125 reading mean??. my girlfriend has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, 8cm mass, has chemo next week and so on. apparently the mass had burst and the fluid was free floating in abdomen??(not sure on details)but her ca 125 reading was over 9000, and wondered what that meant.. how far is the cancer spread.? or how visious it is? thanx for any replies..i really dont know and didnt want to bother her with questions..and what would be her stats on beating this? she is only 34.

Hello

That means that the number to look at will be the 9000. Meaning after treatment this number will be the reference, since it will decrease if the treatment is working. The absolute number does not mean much, what is important is to look at it in context to past values. The number can not be used to know how extensive the tumor is.

best regards,
Leo
