I am very new to this disease but wanted to ask a few questions, I have been having some abdominal pains, both on the right and left side, not really sharp pains but pains nonetheless..had a small bout with constipation, could not go for 2-3 days but may have been nerves...I have been going since, no blood in stools, I have had a abdominal x-ray done, came back negative...I have also had a Abdominal/Pelvic Cat Scan done in which I drank barium to outline the internal organs, everything came back negative with no abnormalities or masses...

How confident can the results of the Cat Scan be?? It was read by a radiologist at the Cleveland Clinic so I am confident it was read correctly...I also recently quick smoking and changed my diet which might be leading to anxiety...

Thoughts on the CAT SCAN and results?? All my blood work has come back normal in a physical exam as well as life insurance exam, in which I am sure they screen for everything...Thanks again in advance..

Just looking for some words...signed a paranoid 27 year old...

I asked the same questions of my Radiologist friend. His bottom line was that as far as cancer detection goes, the only 100% proof is in doing the pathology on a tissue sample. Even there though mistakes are often made and cancers misdiagnosed.
The CT (cat) scan is a great tool that supports other diagnostic methods, such as a Colonoscopy. It however is not fool proof. As my friend put it "the CT should not be used to eliminate the presence of cancer".

Hope this helps and definitely do the Colonoscopy.
