My dad was diagnosed with PC back in October of 2003 with a PSA level of over 1,300. It had already spread to the bones and lymph nodes and was considered last stage. The doctors only gave my dad a couple of months at the time. He underwent chemotheray and believe it or not that put it in remission. Well the cancer is back (PSA of 432) and on top of that his kidneys don't work and is having dialysis three days a week. He has been out of the hospital for two months now and has not called the oncologist. I keep telling him that this is nothing to play around with but he seems like it's not important to him. I tell him that the cancer can kill him just as much as his kidneys. I am so frustrated with the whole thing. How do I convince him to take it seriously. HELP!!!!

Perhaps it is more important to your Dad than you are aware and perhaps he knows something you do not. Your frustration may be preventing any real conversation with your Dad. It might be worth a try to ask your Dad why he has made his decisions and say you will respect any decision that he makes. It may help get at the root cause of what you see as your Dads unwillingness to deal with the issue.

It sounds like your Dad has decided not to fight the disease, but to try to enjoy what time he has left. If that's the case, he would want you to accept his decision & spend as much time with him as possible.
I survived prostate cancer 5 years ago, & now have lung cancer.
