TIM,

As you know, there are many theories about the cause of elevated PSA, including: recent sexual activity, infection/inflamation and prostate size.

Usually our prostae becomes larger with age and the larger prostate produces more PSA.

Do not know of your situation, but one important aspect is rate of change of the PSA, rather than one reading in isolation.

thanks john,
psa has gone from 0.6 to 8.4 three years later. the doc thinks it's due to an infection. prostate palpates smooth with slight dissymmetry. rechecking in 6 weeks.

also, one of my reasons for asking about "other" causes of psa elevation is that i would like to eliminate those other causes prior to rechecking the psa. i would like to come in low and avoid the howitzer if possible.

Tim.

Unfortunately a lot of tests might be a good guide, but are not always 100% certain.

A few years ago my biopsy had two abnormal samples. My recent biopsy was all clear. Specialists explanation was that cancer cells might be small and missed in the test, (which would be unusual with 12 samples taken).

I always suggest people obtain the book "Prostate Csancer Preventtion and Cure" by Lee Nelson, which is very comprehensive.
