My wife is from the Philippines. Her family is extremely poor. We support them 100% with as much as we can.

3 weeks ago we found out mom (60 years old) has cancer. She 1st had papsmear (1st in her life), then ultrasound, then biopsy. Doctor stated she has Stage 3B, with 3-6 months to live or 6-12 months to live with chemo/radiation therapy. My wife works at a hospital in the XRay department. She knows a few docs who told her that with chemo/radiation therapy mom could live 5-6 years.

----Why are 2 doctors so far apart in life expectancy?----

We are trying to make a decision. Mother and family in PI are very uneducated and have really no idea about what is wrong. So we have to make the decision for her.

My wife wants to go back and see her mother. We will be able to do this in mid April. My wife wants mother to have chemo after my wife leaves to come back to US, so that her time with mom will not be as bad.

----If we wait until May to start chemo, is that to late?----

Hello

Thanks for posting. If you are getting such different responses, maybe you should take her to be seen in a place you trust. It is very difficult to make decisions. As she has quite advanced disease, her prognosis is not excellent but there are treatments that certainly can be offered.

best regards,
Leo
