Hello! I found this site through one of the myriads of searches to learn what I can about Multiple Myeloma, which my father was diagnosed with this past March. It's pretty much torn my life apart. There were days I would die for him, and days I just wanted him to be free of all the pain. My heart breaks every time I visit him. The worst part is that the doctors and my mother haven't told him that his cancer is terminal. How do you keep a dying man hopeful and happy? He's at stage 3, and is off chemo due to many problems. He can hardly walk, and his spine is permanently curved. I have no faith, and am the reluctant Florence Nightingale to him whenever my mother goes away...I'm pretty much just venting, but wouldn't mind hearing about how others cope with a terminally ill parent, without getting depressed about one's own fate...

Hello

I am very sorry to hear about your father. Multiple myeloma is really a tough disease that can cause a lot of pain and suffering. You can get in touch with your local American Cancer Society, they may have local support groups that you can join. Of course there are other people in this forum that can help. Personally I think it is important to "vent" just like you did. We are all here to help.

best regards,
Dr Leo F
