Ok. This sounds strange but I've been on Tamoxifen for about 45 days with no side effects but in the last two weeks have noticed that when I exercise, mow the yard, etc that causes me to sweat that I have a stinging sensation on my skin. It's almost like a burning feeling. When I stop sweating the stinging goes away. If I cool down or take a shower it goes away. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've read a side effect of Tamoxifen is itching but that makes me think it means itching all the time. This is not itching but stinging and only when I perspire and then its gone. Has anyone else had this experience?

Hi Marion,
I only took Tamoxifen for 6 months before switching to Arimidex once it was determined that chemo put me into menopause. I personally didn't have the stinging like you're describing. The only thing I remember is muscle aches, almost like the flu.
I'm sure someone else will be more help then I was.
Best of luck
Nancy

We are doing telephone interviews with women who are on tamoxifen. This interview is confidenitial. All information is used for research only.
You would be paid $35.00 for a 45min to 1hr interview. If you are interested please email me. jcrandall@factsnfiguresinc.com

I hve this sensation really bad. I had a large tumor in each breast in addition to nodal involvement. I thought it may have resulted from the nerve damage from all the nodes removed in my arms. Also, I have two large scars from the tumor removal, which I thought may have contributed to skin sensitivity I get that burning under both arms and on the side of my torso near where the skin meets with the underarm. It is bad when I prespire, and it is especialy painful for any clothing to come in contact with my skin, especialy on my left side. I didnt make the connection between that and tamoxifen though. I just started on tamoxifen in April, this coming October will be my one year since surgery.

I don't know if this could apply, and I am sure that you have already thought of it, but are you using some sun screen or other body lotion of some sort? It sounds like the stinging I get when I use a sunscreen that I am sensitive to, one of the old style PABA formulas. The skin on my face is particularly vulnerable to that sort of thing.

I haven't had that sort of reaction while on Tamoxifen (one year), but of course everyone differs.

Jan,
ROFL............is it hot in here or is it just me. You're too funny.
A friend of mine and I were both on Tamoxifen and we'd play games on the computer together and it could be snowing outside and 10 degrees, but we'd always im each other saying, brb hot flash and go outside in shorts and it felt so good. I'm sure the neighbors thought we were crazy, but it sure felt good.
I've not had one since switching to Arimidex. Of course the hot flashes/night sweats were replaced with bone and joint pain....... ugh
