I'm 20 years old and just recovered from testicular cancer, or Embryonal Carcinoma. While it wasn't as deadly compared to other types of cancer, it gave me a better outlook on life.

I went to the doctor to have my right testis examined, as it had become 2-3 times larger than the one on the left and was rock solid with a lump. They sent me to a urinologist and I was put on the path to surgery. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, and I was released 4 or so hours after the operation. I mainly just threw-up a lot when I awoke and spent a few weeks in bed unable to walk on my right leg. I was told that I'd need another surgery(which I chose) in order to remove the lympnodes and ensure that the cancer did not return. I went to lakeland region hospital in florida to have this operation performed.

It was scary having my arms and legs strapped in while surgeons prepared their equipment. When they put the mask on my face I knew I'd be dreaming shortly(previous experience). ^^

I woke up screaming as they dragged me from the table to the bed, where I awoke later that day in my room where I would spend the next week. They stuck tubes down my nose into my stomach and had tubes that allowed me to use the bathroom while in bed. I had plenty of IVs and a machine pumping morphin into me next to my bed. The machine stopped working a few times, giving me plenty of hell. My arms were twice their normal size and became all "puffy" for some reason...I also had these weird seizures where my arms, jaw, hip, and other parts of my body would move about and act on their own. This was shortly before a massive pain attack on my Incision, which went from my lower sternum to a few inches below the belly button. Aside from noisy roomates, I had no problem eatting jelly that week. :p

Upon being released I was nursed back to health by my mother and family. My bowls didn't work for another week or so. While still weak, I'm slowly regaining my strength and it's been a month. I have to thank Dr. Hodge for all his help and being a wonderful surgeon at the Cancer institute in florida. Maybe now I won't be as enemic as I was before.

I can only recommend that anyone suffering from similar problems go to a local hospital and have themselves looked into as quickly as possible. Another week and I would have been in a much worser condition than I am now.

Hi LF! What a story! I am amazed that something like this can happen to such a young person as you are. How is everything going for you now? I wish you the best and will wait for more info about your progress.
