My mother who is 80 just had a PET SCAN Thursday. Today she is saying the lump on her neck that is NHL is getting sore more and more. Before the PET SCan it was not sore. Is this the cause of the PET SCAN?? THe PET Scan did not show any other areas of NHL. So that was the good news. IT has been about 4 weeks since My mother discovered the lump on her neck. All we know for now is she has B cell NHL. WE feel is has been longer than it should have been before treatments begin. She is seeing the Chemo doctor this week. But we are concerned about the lump being so sore now and also has grown larger. Can the LUMP be growing at a faster rate?? Everything I have found has indicated that the PET SCAN has no side affects. Can anyone help with this answer?

Hi gs963

Sorry to hear of your Mothers disturbing symptoms. They are unlikely to have been caused by the PET scan. The pain could be due to the node growing quickly and irritating a nearby nerve, or you mother could have been poking at it, which would also cause it to hurt. Don't worry to much they usually shrink very quickly once the chemo begins usually with in week.

Good luck and remember we are always here to help if needed.

Thanks Chemo for your input on this. She could have been messing with it but I would say its just growing on its own. Thanks again.

Hi gs963

I had tumours the size of small apples that shrank to the size of small peas in a week. It was astounding ! I hope that your mother has a similar response.

Good luck.

Apples? WOW I hope your right Chemoman. THe one thing that is stressing her and now me is that it has been a couple months since she found the lump and so far no treatments. Took 3 weeks to see first Radiation ENCO. They say her records are on the MED ENCO desk but she has not heard from them yet. I am wondering if this lump is growing with no treatments now.
