My name is Spencer. I am a 21 year old male and I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in august 2008. Since then I have had a full thyroidectomy where my 1.5cm node ended up being one of many microscopic cancer cells in my thyroid as well as cancer in the lymphnode they removed. I had a I131 treatment in december of 100 mCys.

In june It was discovered that my TSH levels were too high and I was prescribed 225 mcgs of synthroid up from my original 175. I had a second treatment of I131 in July 2009 with a dose of 200mCys. In the post treatment scans, a metastase was discovered in my right tibia. I am now scheduled for an mri and will at the very least need another treatment in 6 months.

Up until now I have been very relaxed about the whole process but this new news is starting to scare me. If anyone has any more information about what I can expect or other stories about bone metastases I would greatly appreciate it. Bone cancers are one of my greatest fears. I have also read that being under 45 my diagnosis still remains stage II because that is the most severe stage for that age bracket.

Spencer, I am very sorry about your cancer. I know nothing about Thyroid cancers so I cannot give you much information. For all the other cancers with which I am familiar, the age of the person has not bearing on its stage. Age may be a factor in determining prognosis. I would be interested in finding out if age is a factor in staging Thyroid cancers.

In the mean time, be assured that I am thinking about and praying for you.
