I never really thought I would be on a cancer forum asking questions. I have always been pretty healthy and my mother is the ill one. This is hard for me to understand.

So, I am not diagnosed yet but I am wondering if anybody has insight or could share. I read all of the posts here and I am similar in many ways, different in a few.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2000, and have had very few periods since then. I am 33, and have five children. Over the past three years I have had maybe . . . 5 periods. I had one in March, then another one in September. Due to PCOS my periods were always heavy but September was unbearable. I was curled up in bed, blood loss was severe. I figured it was due to the amount of time I had spent without a period. Due to that, I went to the dr and was put on birth control to control bleeding.

3 weeks later I started a period mid-pack. It got so heavy that I was losing grapefruit size clots and passed out. I went back to the dr. who put me on 3 birth control pills a day to control the bleeding. Since then, the bleeding mostly slowed to a normal period but will stop every now and then for a day or two of just spotting. However. . . there is so much brown watery stuff coming out its wierd. I was in a meeting this week and thought I wet my pants. . . but it was just brown liquid. . . very thin. . .

It scared me so I called the Dr. again who sent me to another Dr. who specializes in problems with PCOS etc. She said that she is concerned about Endometrial Cancer, because of my symptoms and the discharge. I am scheduled for a biopsy . . .. I understand that it isn't diagnosed yet but I am a single mother of 5 wonderful kids, I am terrified!

She also asked if I had issues with diarrhea/constipation and suggested that I go on a gluten and dairy free diet for "optimal health while healing" and suggested a host of vitamins (which Im already taking so that was good)

My symptoms are similar in some ways, different in others.
erratic and heavy painful periods, lots of clotting
I have been spotting/bleeding every day for over a month (sometimes its bright red, sometimes thick and dark, it just varies)
Tender uterus, bleeding and sometimes pain during sex

I'm also extremely exhausted, have extreme lower back pain and often a lingering headache. I'm not sure if these are related or not, the back pain is almost worse then the pelvic pain.

Anyway, I guess I just am wondering if anybody has had this experience and not had cancer?

Thank you,
Katrina

Hi Katrina:

My identical twin experienced similar symptoms and was diagnosed with endometriosis. Even just the anemia from it can cause headaches and dizziness, she was excessively tired, bloated, irregular bleeding and huge clots. However, I don't believe a watery discharge was a problem with her. My understanding is although such discharges are suspicious; it is not necessarily indicative of cancer according to my oncologist. I know how tough this is, waiting and not knowing, and my heart goes out to you. You will be in my prayers and let us know how your biopsy goes. Maybe someone can give you a better answer your questions here.

God bless,

Rhonda

Hey Katrina,
I am 29, I had PCOS for almost 10 years, my doc would not help me at all with it and told me to loose weight. In july of this year I started bleeding and continued for 4 weeks before I went to a new doc and he sent me for a ultrasound, which they found a polyp in my cervix. On Oct 1st I had the polyp removed and they did a D&C of my uterus, when the results of that came back they found that I had a fairly rare cancer in my uterus, on Nov 17th I had a full hysterectomy. Please keep on top of your doc, I am lucky that we found the cancer in stage 1, make sure that they are as concerned with your health as you are. Good luck on your biopsy, and yes pls keep us all updated....
