My father has pancreatic cancer. The tumor is operable and treatable. He will be undergoing chemo and radiation for 6 weeks, followed shortly after by Whipple surgery.

In the meantime he is in some pain, tremendously nauseous from the pain meds, is not eating much, is barely conscious, and generally wasting away.

I have spoken to the hospital's palliative care Nurse Practioner, but she doesn't have any more to offer. His primary care physician is not an option -- he missed the cancer. However there doesn't seem to be any specialty involved in keeping the patient alive, or treating the symptoms of cancer beyond the narrow specialized procedures.

My father is going to die from medical neglect. Not sure what to do.

Hi UHD, I am very sorry about your husband's cancer and related problems with getting appropriate care. Have you asked for a home health care referral? Often, they are a great help in situations like your husband is in.

Also, some communities actually have "stand alone palliative care" professional. I am not sure what their formal title is. I do know that they kind of manage the health care of a patient for them... making sure that what is happening with your husband is avoided. They act like a mediator between the patient and all the medical team, make sure prescriptions are up to date, schedule appointments, etc.

Of course, most insurance companies do not cover their services Rolling Eyes

You and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers.
