i posted with concerns for my health, and wondering if my symptoms sounded familiar to anyone, and got immediate responses.
this thread is not really about me so i made it a new one.
mods: if its out of line, delete it, it is greatly directed at you in particular, but everyone else here as well.
i am 42 years old and always consisdered to be the "tough one" in my family.
4th degree blackbelt kempo karate, 6th degreee blackbelt shon-rue karate, national golden gloves semi finalist in light heavyweight division, desert storm survivor including 70 hrs as pow, which ended with my empty ammo belt being shot off of my waist in our get away on a dead run. only thing that saved us was a convoy of drygoods contractors returning fire at our pursuers. 24 hrs and 40 stitches later i was good as new, at least physically.
after this a fella thinks he is as hard as an arizona brick factory.
new awakening:
i stumble upon this site and in a few hrs of reading these threads i realize, im not so tough after all.
i read these stories of folks who are real fighters, and i keep noticing tears headed towards my cheeks. , not from feelings of sadness, but more from displays of strength, bravery, and determination that take a back seat to nothing i have ever seen.
you guys are incredible.
moderators: in just a couple days reading, i have come to this conclusion:
it is possible that i have never met, or corrosponded with anyone who has helped as many ppl, through the toughest times in life.
my hat is off to everyone of you.
if this is out of bounds, or in the wrong place, or does not belong here at all, delete it and i am sorry. i just had to say it. |

Thank you. We are all humbled by your kind remarks. I have to say that I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes as I read of your service to our country.
You speak of bravery, but we do this for the people we love and they go through treatment for us. You will never know the deep respect I have for people, such as yourself, to fight another type of battle for people they don't even know! The sacrifice you have made on behalf of your family, my family, and so many others across our nation, can never be commended enough in my book. Thank you, thank you, thank you and God bless you.
Please keep us updated with any information you get from the docs. Believe me, you are tough and will find that you will rise to the occasion as you have before in your life. It's okay to be scared and tough! I vacillate between the two all of the time.
Many hugs and warm wishes,

Ditto what PBJ said. Bryan, you and all of our brave men and women in uniform are to be commended. You are all heros. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifices. God bless you for your bravery.
I believe that people are survivors. We do what we have to do to survive and we find we have a wellspring of strength we didn't know we had, to tap on when needed. I never would have dreamed in a million years that I'd have had the strength to take care of my mom without falling apart and let her go when it came time.
And you know.....it seems to me that we can be so brave for others but so scared for ourselves. I understand the doctor phobia! |

Okay TW -- I have to confess, I had visions of Egyptian bandages/wrappings on my head when you said "Mummy hat". LOLOL I had to remember you're a Brit!
Oh, I'm so warped today.
