Hi All,

Tomorrow Thursday 6th March I go to find out the result of a video conference with a top UK cancer hospital between my Haematologist and some other specialists. My Haemo is 80 % sure my MGUS has turned to MM and requires treatment to start. Tomrrows appointment is just to tell me if its turned to MM and to let me know whether I am going to need to start teatment.

Can ayone tell me how long after the definate diagnosis that I will start treatment, I know it sounds selfish but I am trying to get away for a short holiday before treatment because I know I will become too ill to go once the treatment begins. I am going to be a candidate for SCT how long after diagnosis do they do this?

Thanks everyone, My goodness I am dreading tommorrow. xx

Hi JaneMGUSuk, I am very sorry you are having to deal with MM. My ex father-in-law had it for a number of years before he died of it.

The beginning of treatment really depends on how far it has spread and how many problems it potentially create for you. If it is really bad, they will start treatments almost immediately... within at least a week. If it is not very dangerous, the doctors can take their time and treatment will begin within 2-3 weeks at the most. I am assuming that you do not have other complicating factors like a broken bone or infection that need to be resolved first.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how thing are going for you.

Thanks for the reply Brainman,

At the moment I dont have an infection or any complications so hopefully it will be 2-3 weeks, which will give me time to get away on holiday and try to relax and come to terms with things. I have been getting repeat infections, I have had 10 infections since november 2007, five needed antibiotics and 5 needed antivirals, so I am hoping I can stay well long enough to get the okay to go on vacation from my Haematologist. The only other things bothering me are some back pain and pain in my hips, legs and feet and some sweating and getting a bit out of breath. All my bloodwork is normal apart from my paraprotein IGg is 4480 and bone marrow plasma is 25%, this is why I am a difficult case for my specialist, usually theres some anaemia or kidney damage or other signs but I have none, thank goodness.

Thanks again for the reply and I will keep you updated and let you know if I'm off on vacation to the Caribbean.
