Hi Everyone

My ex husband has bowel cancer which has spread to his liver and lung.

He has had sores in his mouth for a while which come and go but for the past two weeks they have become worse and are preventing him from eating a number of things as it stings. The sores are down either side of his tongue and on his lips. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what he can use to help with these sores?
Thanks for your suggestions
Dorothy

Do you think it could be thrush? A lot of people who have their immunity under attack get it. There is a prescription mouth wash for him to request, if that is what it is. He will need to talk with his doctor to get the prescription so if it is not thrush, the doctor can tell you how to treat it.

Best wishes.

It could be I don't know. I was looking for something he could use to alleviate the discomfort until he sees the doctor in 4 days time. Someone suggested a mouthwash called Disfflam (sp?)

He has salt baths for the rash on his skin but that only gives very temporary relief. So many symptoms so many medications I just wish there were a few remedies that doidn;t have side effects themselves.

If it is the old run-of-the-mill mouth sore caused by the herpes virus, my mother had a home remedy... put Alum on the ulcers. Warning, it hurts like heck Confused but it does do the trick.

Yes, even aspirin has unwanted side effects.

My late husband used to get ulcers in his mouth & a dentist told him it was a vitamin deficiency & to get Llysine in the vitamin department. That cleared his up. But I would check with his doctor first.

A very old remedy for mouth ulcers is a mouthwash of 10 percent baking soda [bicarbonate of soda] in warm water. Rinse the mouth frequently with this.
