Father in law was treated with tarceva and gemcitabine along with radiation. He sees the surgeon next week and they are hoping he will be able to have surgery. He had a mini whipple in july but they could not remove the whole tumor as there was some liver arterial involvement. His CA 19 levels have remained low, so we are hoping that the tumor has shrunk. I don't remember the study exactly, but it was conducted by Dr. Pipas at Dartmouth University (hospital in Bethlehem, NH). He had gotten some good results with this chemo regiment. He is very nice and the oncologist called him a few times for some information. His study found shrinkage from this regiment so hopefully that is what they want to do with your brother in law. good luck to you.

Thanks...

To give you a background.... My bro in law had a whipples in September 07 and then had some complications before he could come home in November 07. Thoush his margines were clear in the biopsy...His chemo started in dec and he has already finished 2 cycles of Gemcita and Oxaliplatin. However after his first chemo he had some complications with his LFT levels hence we did a scan and it showed some worry some pictures after which he has been advised Tarceva along with his chemo regime.

He will be going for a pet scan in April to know the status. He is not suffering the side effects on both chemo and tarceva which is heavy rash on his upper body and also a terrible stomach. Hope his get well soon as he is just 41.
