hi all..my mom recently had surgery to remove most of her pancreas removed (they left a little), and the surgery was a little over a week ago...they tested it in the hospital and said it was negetive for cancer...well the results came back from vancouver positive for cancer...now i dont know too much becuase my dad and i didnt want to talk too much about it in front of my son (hes turing 4 soon), all my dad said is that "it doesnt look good" and as soon as she is strong enough she will be starting chemo...my mom is my best friend and the thought of her not being here is ripping me apart inside..i also recently had a baby and the thought of her not being there to see my kids grow up hurts like nothing i have ever felt before.
I am also EXTREMLy angry with her DR....he has been giving her heartburn pills and putting in stents for about 2 years, and i am sure this could have been detected earlier...she has a drs appt tomorrow so we should know more(we just found out the bad news yesterday)..but i am totally devestated and am glad i found this board even if just to vent sometimes Smile

Jessica, I am very sorry about your mother's cancer. Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worst cancers. It is so hard to diagnose and to treat. I am glad they were able to save at least a part of it since that will help her digestion.

Please, fell free to vent all you need. You are among friends. You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jessica,

I know where you are coming from. My mom was just diagnosed at the beginning of Jan and I was way more devastated then she was! I can't imagine my life without her in it so I feel your pain. Just remember it isn't over until the fat lady sings! I'm trying to really enjoy this time with my mom and really listen to the stories of her growing up.

My mom is on no treatment currently because of her age and heart although we have decided to talk to an oncologist and not just take the 1st dr's suggestion of Hospice. I do have my mom taking Triphala and if you google it you will find many reputable sites talking about how this has worked amazingly well on mice with human pancreatic tumors and they are soon to do human trials. This study was done at the Univ. of Pittsburgh and since I can't wait around for the next phase of trials to start I put my mom on it and she has had no side effects from it. It may not be doing any good but it isn't expensive and I figure it can't hurt to try. I'm not expecting a miracle but even if it slowed the growth and gave me a couple extra months with her I would be grateful. Best of luck to you & your mom!! Izzabella

my mom has started chemo now and is going every week for treatments, she had her 1st round on friday and is very very tired from it..the drs estimate 1-2 years is all we have left with her so i want to spend as much time with her as i can, but with her being so tired all the time it is hard..I have also pulled my 4yr old from school for a couple weeks becuase he seems to catch every cold and flu out there, and i really want my boys to be able to see my mom as much as they can too...she is only 49 so i am hoping with her "fighter" attitude she can hang in there as long as possible...i am sooo not prepared for this and i am pretty sure I am still in denial about it, my family is devestated and I am trying to be strong for myself, my dad, my sister, and my kids Smile

Jessica, she will need all the support you and her family can give. At the same time, so will you. How is your support system (outside of your family)?

You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

my support system is pretty good, my mom and I worked together and all the ladies who work there are super close with us and are kinda all like 2nd moms to me, my friends are here for me too but i dont think any of them understand what I am going through ( I tend to internalize everything)..I know its going to be very very hard when her time comes because she is pretty much my best friend so down the line i am not too sure how i am going to handle it, my heart will be broken, but i just want to be strong for my dad, hes really not handling this very well
