Hey everybody. Sorry I haven't posted anything lately. My mom had her lymph node biopsy 2 weeks ago, they took out 2 nodes, one came back with a very small cancer on it. She went last thursday and had her mast. reconstruction and they took out a lot of her other lymph nodes. She was pretty sick after surgery but got to come home 2 days later. She's doing much better. We went this past wednesday (the 6th) and got a good report. The cancer had not spread to any of her other lymph nodes except that one. Her cancer is also estrogen receptive positive.
She starts chemotherapy in about 3-4 weeks. She's not looking forward to it, but we will get through it. She will have 4 treatments over a period of 12-16 wks. I know some people do ok with it, but some people don't. She is having second thoughts b/c she believes by what the docs said that they got all the cancer, but we hate to take that chance just in case it had spread somewhere else.

Hi,
Every step of this disease and treatment is scary. Most people tolerate chemo well. If she has nausea, they have better meds now then they did even 3 years ago when I was going through it. The main side affect is she'll be tired more and get tired easier. She needs to listen to her body and rest when she's tired. Most also have very good days in between treatments. I don't know what kind of chemo she's going to be getting, but I got 3 at the same time and I was tired and didn't feel good for several days after, but then there were days that I didn't feel any different then before I started chemo. The hardest part for me was losing my hair. I had always had it long and when it didn't come out in the normal 12-14 days and I still had it all after 3 treatments, we thought I might be one of those very few that don't lose their hair, but right before the 4th treatment, it started coming out. I was devistated, but you accept that too and then you celebrate your first bad hair day... lol I looked like alfalfa (sp) all over and I didn't even comb it down, I was proud of it..... lol
She'll do great and with you there to support her, that will mean alot.

So glad to hear your Mom got through this phase of her journey.Remember you can only live one day at a time there are alot of different things to cope with just try not to get overwhelmed. You will both get through this. It's a scary time for everyone-I remember thinking the same thing.Should I go through the treatments or not then I looked at my Family they were suffering right there with me,I wasn't ready to give up on life, not seeing my children through there lifes challenges or triumphs.I thought also that they may have gotten it all with surgery , but what if they didn't! And because I was scared I didn't take the treatments and it came back and took my life-I wouldn't have done all that was possible to make sure that I was here for my family .Life is short enough,it really makes you look at what's really important-and I'm not ready to give it up.
It's probably not going to be easy, there are alot of unknowns, but it makes a world of difference when your family and friends are there for you-you may even find out who you're true friends really are,I know I did.But things are so much better these days than in the past. She needs to get lots of rest and a proper diet, lots of fresh untainted fruits and vegetables.
Keep us posted,You all are in my prayers. _________________ Sue

Thanks to you all that responded. We are doing better and better everyday. We go back tomorrow so she can have her heart tested to make sure its strong enough for chemo, and a check up with the plastic surgeon.
I will post what type of chemo she will have after we find out for sure tomorrow.
