I am 30 years old...two years ago, I was diagnosed with a liver tumor which they assumed was focal nodular hyperplasia. I have had some pain around the liver area (upper right area) off and on, occasional 'jabs', etc. but never thought anything of it.
Last August, I started to have constant stabbing pains around the liver area. In Sept it escalated and I had to go to the ER. On 9/2/2004 they ran bloodwork, found I had elevated lipase which indicates pancreatitis, but the next day it came back normal (although other bloodwork elements were very high or low). The pain began to radiate to the upper abdominal area, I lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks, I couldn't eat, I was exhausted (although I have had problems with fatigue for a couple of years now). It went on through October. They've done MRIs, endoscopy, CAT scan, etc. and all came back 'normal'.
A couple of months went by, other than extreme fatigue (I would go to bed at 6pm, sleep until 6am to go to work...that is not like me) and occasional abdominal pain, things went back to 'normal'. But three weeks ago it's started again. Feeling incredibly swollen, sharp stabbing pains on the right upper side, a 'rock like' feeling into the middle of my stomach/abdomen area, difficulty eating, some weight loss, slight fever, etc. Again, bloodwork done, I had a hida scan done, all things coming back 'normal'.
So, my doctor called me and said he was going to refer me to someone...and if his office calls to please just go along with the plan. He didn't specify what plan..or what kind of doctor I was going to be sent to.
The next day his office called - I am seeing a doctor in Boston, MA. Again, they didn't tell me why, who he is, etc. So I looked online - the doctor I am going to see is a specialist with liver oncology/surgery/etc.
So now I am feeling very scared. I am alone up here, my family is in Ohio, and I'm not sure what to do. I've been in constant pain for 3 weeks again, and I've also had some problems with going to the bathroom (bleeding).
Can someone please give me their input or provide some insight? The fact I'm having these symptoms and that it's been recurring has me very worried now.
